Dinner with a Historic Person [Feb. 10th, 2004|06:13 pm]
Alexander the Great
[mood |contemplativecontemplative]

Must it be a historic person? Otherwise, I would have immediately chosen Achilles… all those who know me are aware of the deep respect I have for his character, and how closely paralleled I find my own aspirations, abilities, and temperament. Even Hephaistion is my own mirror-image of Patroklos.

But in this case, I will chose Homer, as he is the brilliant and influential author responsible for the Iliad, and the tale of Achilles and Patroklos.

What is your favorite Guilty Indulgence? [Feb. 10th, 2004|05:56 pm]

[mood |annoyedannoyed]

Alcohol. It is my one physical indulgence in this life… my only real gluttony. I do not gorge myself on food or pleasure of the flesh, rather taking such comforts in consistent doses.
I will say this about my drinking. I am consistent with that as well. I will never drink to the point of irrationality, nor will I leave my cup full.
I also will not drink outside of a social gathering.

The responsibility of my position requires my physical and mental acuity, and I will not shirk it.

How did you lose your Virginity? [Feb. 10th, 2004|05:54 pm]

Hephaistion and I made clumsy but tender love in a forest while out for riding and archery practice. We were both 15.

It is one of my most treasured memories.

Do you believe in Love At First Sight? [Feb. 10th, 2004|05:42 pm]
Alexander the Great
[mood |touchedtouched]

Is there such a thing as “Soul Mates”? The philosopher in me would like to think so. Love is the greatest of all aspirations in this life, nothing gives me a greater sense of accomplishment and satisfaction. When I expand into the territory of a new and fascinating people, it is my deepest and most precious wish that they will learn to love me for what I have done for them, for how I have united the tribes of this world.
However, the purest and most honorable of all love is that which is shared between two men, the invincible warrior bond.
The Gods have blessed me with the fortune of sharing this precious love with my friend since childhood, Hephaistion.
I have come to appreciate this agape with time, as I admit that upon our first meeting, we shared only the innocent affection of youth. Only upon our adolescence did the relationship blossom into something with a more intimate and sacred meaning.

Is there ever a good reason to get blinding drunk? [Jan. 6th, 2004|07:31 pm]

[mood |disappointeddisappointed]

Scholars have accused me of alcoholism. I admit I have often found myself seduced by the taste of a good wine in the company of my men and may have lost my inhibitions more than once.
If I were any other man, I doubt this would even be a topic of discussion.

New Years Resolutions [Dec. 28th, 2003|01:05 am]
Alexander the Great
[mood |determined]

First off, my I say that this is quite a strange concept. It is my belief that one must always be at their best, and strive for nothing less than the full potential the Gods gave them.
However:

1) Expand Kingdom, and educate myself on all new cultures I encounter.

2) Convince Hephaestion to set aside private time. As my vizier, he is often too involved with his duties to our kingdom to devote himself to only its king.

3) Plan recreational activities to keep the men in high spirits. Give them women of conquered nations to soothe their passions and unify our cultures.

4) Try to keep in touch with mother. Her letters become more annoyingly insistent as they go unreplied.

5) Learn at least one new language. Study from the Brahmins in India, learn more about the warrior Arjuna and his guide, Krishna.

6) Try to get at least one of my wives pregnant. Must produce as many heirs as possible. As they say, "A tough job, but someone has got to do it."

Hello, all my friends... [Dec. 24th, 2003|09:48 am]
Alexander the Great
[mood |nostalgicnostalgic]

I would like to introduce myself to all. My name is Alexandros III Philippou Makedonon, and I was born is 345 BC in Pella, Macedonia to my mother, Olympias, and her husband, King Philipos II. I came into this world by the grace of Zeus on the same day the Temple of Aremis at Ephesus was destroyed by a fire. That was an omen for my life

My obsession is the delicate art of war, which I was trained in at a young age (having killed my first man at 15), and schooling myself on the attributes of the great cultures I encounter in my journeys across the civilized world.
However, all this would hold no meaning for me without my greatest love and truest friend, hephaistion. You are the endless flame that alights my soul.

As for the question regarding predetermination... it is my belief that the moment my mother became impregnated with the power of Zeus, my life was chosen for me. However, I feel that there were many paths I could have chosen to take within this forest. I could have been nothing but a conquerer and uniter. My spirit would have allowed for nothing less. There is no other True Love for me but Hephaistion, as he is the Patroklos to my Achilles, and the other half of my soul. In that way, I believe we were bound together since birth, and will be until the day we die.
